Above the Fold - portion of a web page visible without scrolling.

Acronym - an abbreviation made up of the first letters of a group of words. It is pronounced as a single word, for example Pay per Sale (PPS)

Ad Blocking - the blocking of web advertisements, usually the image in graphical web advertisements.

Ad Space - space on a Web page available for advertisements.

Advertising Network - network representing many web sites selling advertising which allows advertising buyers to reach broad audiences easily through run-of-category and run-of-network buys.

Affiliate (Associate or Publisher) - web site owner who places links on their site to promote merchant products or services. An affiliate gets commissions for all valid transactions referred to the merchant.
Affiliate Agreement - the legal contract between a merchant and an affiliate that outlines the terms of their business relationship.
Affiliate Directory - a listing of affiliate programs.

Affiliate Forum - an online community where visitors may read and post topics related to affiliate marketing.

Affiliate Fraud (cheating) - unethical false activity generated by an affiliate in an attempt to generate illegitimate, unearned revenue.
Affiliate Link - a piece of code residing in a graphic image or piece of text placed on an affiliate's web page that notifies the merchant that an affiliate should be credited for the customer or visitor sent to their web site.

Affiliate Marketing - type of internet marketing allowing web sites to share traffic and revenues via banner and text advertisements. Online merchants pay commissions to website owners (affiliates) for referring sales or leads to their site. This is different from "pure" advertising, with affiliate marketing merchants only pay for results (leads or sales).

Affiliate Merchant - the advertiser in the affiliate marketing relationship.

Affiliate Network - company involved in recruiting merchants and recruiting affiliates for those merchants. They track affiliates, send out the checks to affiliates and provide other necessary support both to affiliates and merchants.

Affiliate Program (Associate or Partner Program) - internet marketing model where merchants promote their products and services through other (affiliate) web sites. The merchant pays a commission to the affiliate for generating clicks, leads, or sales from a graphic or text link located on the affiliate's site.

Affiliate Program Directory – a compilation of affiliate programs, featuring information such as commission rate, number of affiliates, and affiliate solution provider.
Affiliate Software - software that provides tracking and reporting of commission-triggering actions (sales, registrations, or clicks) from ALT Text - HTML attribute that provides alternative text when non-textual elements, typically images, cannot be displayed.
Animated GIF - graphic in the GIF file format that creates the effect of animation by rotating through a series of static images.

Application Service Provider - provider of applications/services that are distributed through a network to many customers in exchange for a stream of smaller payments as opposed to one fixed, up front price.
Associate – an affiliate, partner, colleague, or member.
Auto Responder – type of software that automatically replies to an email message by sending a pre-composed reply that can be structured to include images, text, PDF files etc. Many can be set up to send multiple follow-up messages at pre-defined intervals, or in response to certain actions such as a recipient clicking on a link within a prior message. Can be used to send confirmation emails when someone signs up for a newsletter, submits an application form, or sends feedback, or for complicated tasks such as sending a series of targeted email marketing messages at pre-determined intervals.
